Possible Hate Crimes Incident at Gallaudet University

In Room 101 of Cogswell Hall, a dormitory of Gallaudet University, Eric Franklin Plunkett was found murdered. Repeated beatings to Eric's head and neck is believed to be the cause of his death. His death would have gone unnoticed had it not been for concerned students who knew him. They hadn't seen him for a day and asked a resident advisor to check in. Campus security called the DC police for assistance.

Mr Plunkett was originally from Burnsville, Minnesota and a Class of 2000 graduate of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf. Eric, who had cerebral palsy, earned the respect of many, becoming a salutatorian. Eric is described as "a very sweet guy'' with a set of goals he wished to accomplish. Within his 41 days at Gallaudet University, the ambitious young man filled the position of a secretary of the Lambda Society of Gallaudet University (LSGU). Until his murder, complaints by the University's GLBT club of anti-gay harassment were ignored.
