BRAD History

Established on March 4, 2000

As the Deaf and hard of hearing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender communities in central Ohio grew in great numbers, a group of six deaf individuals, Jimmy Cardosi, Bob Donaldson, Rolf Hagton, Todd Higgins, Tim Miller and Steven Ripple, recognized the need of a central organization in the State of Ohio to bring together Deaf and hard of hearing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals as one united group to battle the hatred that has long existed in our community and work together to educate our society about tolerance. Thus, in March, 2000, with the support of our six founders, a new chapter of the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (RAD) has been formed in Central Ohio. This new chapter is now known as the Buckeye Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (BRAD). BRAD is open to any interested individuals who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, or Transgender, and heterosexual individuals who are supportive of our community.
